Review: Hive Beach Cafe, Burton Bradstock, Dorset

West-Bay-700

I’m not sure about you, but I was totally into Broadchurch. I didn’t really see it advertised beforehand and missed the first 5 minutes but it grabbed hold of my attention straight away and that was it – hooked! I knew it was set in Dorset and it didn’t take me long to realise it was West Bay near Bridport.

We used to go there as a child so I thought it would be a lovely place to visit again. But I wanted to go before it got too busy. So last Sunday we woke up early to a beautiful day and decided to take the drive out there. It only took us 45 minutes and we took the scenic coastal route. (Oh and I knew he was the killer…..honestly! We visited the Sunday before the final episode and my detective skills were on fire.)

On the way we passed a sign for the Hive Beach cafe – I had wanted to go a while back but never found the time so we decided we would make a stop on the way back for a coffee.

So after our walk around West Bay (and my mind made up about who ‘did’ it) we headed to the Hive Beach cafe which is only a 10 minute drive. The car park is operated by the National Trust so you can park for free if you are a member.

What a beautiful cafe – set on the beach with stunning views.

As we walked in it was easy to see how popular the cafe was – it was a little too early for lunch and the sky had turned grey yet it was still overflowing with people. We went straight to the queue to order our coffee.  We had only planned on stopping for a hot drink but when I saw the home-made cakes that all changed.

And the scones…..wow. I noticed them after ordering my cake but they looked amazing!

I had decided on a slice of rhubarb cake and my husband had a chocolate brownie. The slice I was given was huge, but I was secretly glad when I tasted it! It was moist and not too sweet – definitely a great choice. I believe my husband enjoyed his brownie – it was gone before I got chance to ask for a taste!

If you are ever out this way I would 100% recommend a stop at this cafe. Whether it’s for breakfast (the menu for this looks incredible), coffee and cake (there is no way you can have the coffee without the cake here!!!), a light lunch or a full blown seafood supper – you won’t be disappointed!

This cafe is an ideal hideaway for a peaceful weekend.

Oh and guess what I’m going to make tomorrow?!…

Easy Ice Cream Cupcakes

It’s these cakes that sparked the idea of starting a blog. I made them for an afternoon tea party and a friend suggested I started a blog when everyone was asking how I made them. So here I am! They are so easy, you can get your kids to help make them! The recipe is…
